Alfarabi: Fake news detection using Lebanon and Afghanistan as examples
Since the summer of 2022, the Candid Foundation has been working in a network with the renowned think tank Brandenburg Institute for Society and Security (BIGS) and the analysis and testing services company Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (IABG) on a research project focusing on fake news detection on social media using Twitter as an example. The project, with the acronym Alfarabi, named after the 10th-century Arab philosopher, which was commissioned by the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich, is pursuing the goal of investigating disinformation that is reproduced via Twitter using quantitative (technical) and qualitative (sample investigations by experts) methods. In doing so, we focus on Afghanistan and Lebanon in two case studies.
